Summary
Today we begin the month of November, the month of "All Saints" and also the month when we remember and pray for the "Faithful departed." All Soul's Day is a day that is always observed on November 2nd. We dedicate this day (2nd November) for the remembrance of our friends and loved ones who have passed away. The Church always reminds us to pray for all our departed brothers and sisters. It is an occasion to pray for those who have died in the state of grace but who still need further purification before they can enter heaven. That is what we do every time we offer Masses for the dead: we pray for the souls in purgatory. The day purposely follows All Saint's Day in order to shift the focus from those in heaven to those in purgatory. It is celebrated with Masses in honour of the dead.
