Happy Christmas

We are finally in December, the last month of the year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank God for all the good deeds that he has done for us throughout this year. In terms of giving thanks to God, are we thankful only when we compare, or are there also times when we’re just plain thankful? This is a question most of us have probably never asked ourselves, but we all should—especially as we approach the end of this year 2008.

Solemnity Of All Saints

We have just entered the month of November, the month of "All Saints" and the month of the "Faithful departed." All Soul's Day is a day that is always observed on November 2nd. It is a Roman Catholic day of remembrance for friends and loved ones who have passed away. The day purposely follows All Saint’s Day in order to shift the focus from those in heaven to those in purgatory.

Proclaim the Gospel to Everyone

I would like to start by mentioning some of the events that took place in our Parish during the past month of September. First, I would like to mention the Pilgrimage to Subukia which was indeed a huge success. My great appreciation goes out to the Apostolate Committee for the great work that they did in organizing the pilgrimage. May they receive numerous blessings through Our Lady Consolata.

Feast of The Triumph of The Cross

Last month we had the pleasure yet again to be entertained by our youth
and other youth from 13 Parishes within Nairobi during the annual youth event of Consofeste that was held at the Millennium hall of the University of Nairobi. It was a highly entertaining event and for all those who missed I would recommend to them to make a point of attending next year.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

For quite sometime, the belief in Our Lady’s bodily assumption to heaven was still, in the words of Pope Benedict XIV, a probable opinion the denial of which would be considered blasphemous; and so it remained for another 200 years.

PENTECOST SUNDAY 11th May 08

Next Sunday 11 May we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, the day in which Jesus fulfilled his promise of sending the Advocate, the Holy Spirit. I will over the coming months consider with you the Gifts of the Spirit, but for now let us pause and wonder about the meaning and implications of the word gift especially when it is applied to spiritual realities.

VOCATION SUNDAY

The fourth Sunday of Easter is kept by the whole church as day of prayer for the priesthood and consecrated life. We pray not only for those who are already in these life states, but also that others will be called to these wonderful vocations.

The Lord is RISEN

For any well formed and devout Catholic the most important celebrations of the whole liturgical year are those of the Easter Triduum, the last three days of Holy Week. We may not know the exact date of the birth of Jesus, December 25 being just a probable date, but we know exactly the day of his death and resurrection. “Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany. On the next day people took palm branches and went to meet him and cried out: Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” (Jn 12:1.12-13).

Happy Christmas!!

As we reflect on this year that is soon coming to an end, let us thank God for all that we have achieved in serving Him and our community. He has been Good and Patient with us; and as we approach Christmas, the Feast of the birth of Jesus Christ his Son, let us thank Him for all the good deeds that He has done for us, for our community and for our country as a whole.

Hope And Prayer

Today we begin the month of November, the month of "All Saints" and also the month when we remember and pray for the "Faithful departed." All Soul's Day is a day that is always observed on November 2nd. We dedicate this day (2nd November) for the remembrance of our friends and loved ones who have passed away. The Church always reminds us to pray for all our departed brothers and sisters. It is an occasion to pray for those who have died in the state of grace but who still need further purification before they can enter heaven. That is what we do every time we offer Masses for the dead: we pray for the souls in purgatory. The day purposely follows All Saint's Day in order to shift the focus from those in heaven to those in purgatory. It is celebrated with Masses in honour of the dead.

Mission Sunday 18th October 2009

The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. It is the month in which Mary Most Holy, Queen of the Holy Rosary, is venerated. The Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on October 7. During this month, I call upon you all to pray the Rosary with unwavering faith in your respective homes and small Christian communities in order to obtain from the Lord those graces that the Church and humanity especially need. Please check the notice boards for the schedule of the Rosary and Rosary input by our Catechists (both of the Shrine and Holy Trinity Kileleshwa) in the Small Christian Communities during this month of October.

The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

During this month on 15th September, we will celebrate the special Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. The purpose of this Feast is to commemorate "Our Lady of Sorrows" in devotion to the seven dolors of Mary. The dolors of Mary are as follows: The Prophecy of Simeon over the Infant
Jesus. (Lk 2:34); The Flight into Egypt of the Holy Family. (Matthew 2:13); The Loss of the Child Jesus at Jerusalem for three days. (Lk 2:43)

Feast of Our Lady Consolata - 21st June 09

June is here once again, the month filled with events of grace. We have celebrated the Solemnity of Pentecost and I believe that during this month the Holy Spirit is going to work through us in a very special way. We celebrated the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity on Sunday 7th June, the Patron Saint of Holy Trinity Church, Kileleshwa. We will continue topray in a very special way for the success of the recently launched project at Holy Trinity Kileleshwa of the construction of a Priests' house and Parish hall.

The Solemnity of Pentacost

Welcome to this month's special issue of the Consoling Eye. This issue is bigger and better with more content. The idea of a special issue came up after a survey was carried out among parishioners on what changes they would like to see on the future Consoling eye publications. I take this opportunity to thank all those that participated in the survery bu giving us feedback.

Alleluia!

Today marks the beginning of what should be the most important week of the year for us as Catholics: The Holy Week. This is a special time in which we have the opportunity to leave some things behind that seem to burden our lives. Here are some of them but only if we choose to make this Holy Week "Holy.":

A Time Of Intensive Prayer And Repentance

The Lenten Season, a time to deepen our relationship with God and to express it through concrete actions in our daily life, is here once again. Lent is a forty-day season of preparation for Easter, a season whose beginning is marked by Ash Wednesday, the first day of our Lenten journey.

Feasts and Repentance

This is the first issue of the Consoling Eye for 2009. I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year!! During this month of February, among the important celebrations that we have is the Feast of Blessed Joseph Allamano, the Founder of the Consolata Missionaries; on Monday 16th February. He lived out a continual attention to the Word of God, a deep attraction to Jesus in the Eucharist, and a very loving devotion to Our Lady Consolata. He was a Father who created and nourished his family in a very simple way.

Farewell Fr. Marino

After nine years of serving at Consolata Shrine and Holy Trinity Kileleshwa, the time has come for me to relocate to a new destination to continue with my Apostolate. My Superiors have assigned me back to Italy. As I prepare to take up this new assignment, obviously, it comes with personal loss and with pain but I accept all this as the will of God. I am sad to be leaving, but at the same time, I know that is how our calling as priests is. My experience at this Parish has been a great gift from God to me and I sincerely give thanks and praise to Him.

(Thanksgiving and Farewell Mass will be on Sunday 19th September at 10.30am at the Shrine, presided over by His Eminence John Cardinal Njue)

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel 16th July 2010

Last month on the 20th of June we celebrated the Solemnity of the Patroness of our Shrine, Our Lady Consolata. I take this opportunity to thank all of you for making our celebration of Consolata Day a great success. Great appreciation goes out to all those who donated the flowers for sale and for decorating the Church, the Charities committee for co-ordinating the flower sale with the sub-committee led by Ms. Connie Kato, and to all of you for being there on that great day at our Parish. May the Lord through our Patroness Mary Consolata bless you all.

On July 16 every year the Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady on Mount Carmel, and for many Catholics the name only calls to mind the fact that she is associated with the Brown Scapular; a devotional religious object to which many blessings are attributed. This festivity however reminds us of much more than the scapular.

Feast of Our Lady Consolata 20th June 2010

This month of June, we commemorate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi - the Body and Blood of Christ - on Sunday 6th June 2010. We were privileged to have in our parish Rev. Fr. Edward Wagner who facilitated a Novena in honour of the Body and Blood of Christ as part of our preparation for the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. This included Perpetual Adoration everyday during the Novena period just before the evening Mass

Pentecost Sunday

This month of May is a month when we celebrate the great Feast of Pentecost, also known as the Birthday of the Church. It is when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles on the fiftieth day after the Resurrection of Christ, a day when Jesus fulfilled his promise of sending the Advocate, the Holy Spirit. This event brought into existence the Church of Christ and gave rise to the Christian faith on earth.

Alleluya!

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. Happy Easter to you all! We thank God for seeing us through the 40 day Lenten period and into this Easter season that we are now celebrating. During this time we have a lot to thank the Risen Christ for. We thank him for being with us throughout the Lenten season and for helping us to fulfill our Lenten commitments.

Lent 2010

We are now on the third week of the Lenten season, a time when we are called upon to deepen our relationship with God and to express it through concrete actions in our daily life. It is a time of special grace for us in which we should do some reflection in our lives about our rights and wrongs; and then receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in order to live as good Catholics. This is when we acknowledge that we are sinners. We want to clean up our lives during Lent and to leave sin behind in order to grow closer to the Lord.

Peace

Happy New Year!!!! We thank our Lord for guiding us through the past years and seeing us into yet another year. This year, our main focus should be unity. Unity within our families, communities, our country, and the whole world. And for unity to be truly achieved, prayer is one basic element that needs to be taken seriously. As it is the beginning of a new year, I would like to share a few thoughts on the meaning and need of prayer in our daily lives.
